My vintage 1972 Rockola Jukebox was loaned to the Electrified: 50 Years of the Electric Factory Exhibition to provide music for the first galleries. To allow more interaction, I employed a Raspberry Pi with a 10” touchscreen. The application was programmed to play a selection of songs in mp3 format located on the Raspberry Pi. Gallery visitors could queue up their favorite songs from the era adding to the atmosphere of the didactic panels in the first room.

Overview

The jukebox interactive was very well received and a favorite of many visitors. Broad Street Review when describing this aspect of the exhibition stated, "Drexel visitors can try out a Rock-Ola jukebox loaded with numbers heard at Electric Factory venues and concerts, but the experience is whiplash-inducing: select your oldie standing in the 19th-century building from the mid-20th-century jukebox using a 21st-century digital tablet."
