Philadelphia City Hall

Research project for the course History of Architecture. Students were to select a building from their local area and research the history of its creation. Students were also supposed to visit the building site and record their reflections. The assignment was a relatively informal research project with a summary paper. However, proper citations were required.

Abstract

The informal nature of this project was refreshing, considering this was the first research assignment since returning to school after many years. While surveying the history of the design and construction, this paper also attempted to find opportunities to compare and contrast features found at City Hall with those of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. Comparisons based on research and the personal experience of visiting both buildings. Visting and taking notes while walking through this magnificent building was a rewarding experience.
