Semester Journal
We were tasked with recording semester-long impressions of the history, theory, and practice of graphic design. We were required to make a least one entry per week of the semester (for a total of 15 entries). Entries were based on the required/supplementary readings and resources or “encounters” with examples of historical or contemporary graphic design in your everyday life or exploration of and engagement with the subject. Entries could take the form of critical synopses of reading assignments, original artwork or poetry inspired by our class material, or some other written or creative enterprise; in short, nothing was “off limits” so long as it sufficiently explores some aspect of our weekly in-class work.
Overview
This project was undoubtedly a favorite as a graphic artist and art history major. Finding an excuse to explore historic styles and techniques or reflect on the history of graphic design was inspirational. This assignment got me back into the studio, working in various media.
